Waxing hints
by Elishia Van Luven – esthetician and wax specialist
Waxing is great because of the immediate and dramatic change in appearance. Plus at Caruh we make sure it is a soothing and relaxing experience. Here are a few tips for enjoyable waxing.
Preparing for your wax service:
- hair should be at least 1⁄4″ long and facial hair 1⁄8″ long.
- use liquid exfoliant regularly on waxed areas to prevent ingrown hairs (Aveda makes a great one!)
- FYI – skin feels more discomfort just before and during menstruation
Caring for your waxed skin:
- protect your vulnerable waxed skin from the sun with SPF.
- avoid submerging waxed skin in water or tanning for at least 24 hours.
When not to wax:
- if using accutane or retinoids
- if having regular chemical peels
- if any of the following conditions are present;
- swelling for any reason
- distended capillaries
- sunburn or rashes
- raised varicose veins
- cold sores
- menstruation (only for bikini waxes)
- during pregnancy (first trimester) if skin is sensitive
